The University of Toronto Karate Club is affiliated with various campus,
karate and sport groups.

U of T Campus Affiliations
The University of Toronto Karate Club has the following status on the
U of T Campus:
Sanctioned Faculty of Physical Education and Health Athletic Centre Club

UTKC is a sanctioned Athletics and Recreation club at the U of T Athletic
Centre, which is part of the Faculty of Physical Education and Health.

2. Karate
Group Affiliations
The University of Toronto Karate Club is affiliated with these karate

(i) Jinbukai Canada

Jinbukai
Canada was founded in 1997 by Tominaga Sensei to formally declare
the guiding principles of karate-do for the University of Toronto
Karate Club and all member clubs.
Its
function includes the establishment of policy and the regulation
of technical excellence for its associated dojos.

(ii) Karate Ontario

Karate
Ontario is the regulatory body which governs the sport of karate in
Ontario. The University of Toronto Karate Club is a member of Karate
Ontario. Karate Ontario is the only body recognized by the Ontario
government for karate in the province. |
Karate
Ontario's objectives include:
- Promoting
karate as a martial art and for physical fitness
- Developing
karate-related provincial standards and programs
- Providing
safe competitive opportunities for karate-ka wishing to participate
in the sport aspect of karate
- Governing
the amateur sport of karate and the conduct of all karate-ka under its
jurisdiction
Benefits
provided by Karate Ontario include:
- Limited
liability insurance for the club in the event of injuries that occur
while training with the club
- Ability
for club members to compete at Karate Ontario tournaments
- Access
to refereeing, NCCP coaching and Kata style clinics

National Karate Association

Karate
Ontario is the provincial branch of the National Karate Association
(NKA), the sport governing body for karate in Canada. The NKA is in
turn associated with the World Karate Federation (WKF). |
The
NKA is also responsible for the following:
- Setting
technical standards for karate which all member dojos must meet and
maintain
- The
annual National Black Belt Championship Tournament
- The
Dan (Black Belt) Recognition Program for ensuring consistent black belt
standards
- Testing,
Upgrading, and Certifying National Level Referees
- Participation
in the National Coaching Certification Program
The NKA
is the only governing body for karate officially recognized by the Canadian
government. Because of this success at tournaments at the national level
means competitors may have the opportunity to represent Canada at international
events such as the Pan American Games and the World Championships.

Sports Organizations

Karate
Ontario operates under the auspices of the Sport Alliance of Ontario
(sportalliance) a not-for-profit organization that delivers sport
development programs and services throughout Ontario in partnership
with provincial and community organizations. |

Similarly,
the National Karate Association operates under the auspices of Sports
Canada, a branch of the International and Intergovernmental Affairs
Sector of the Department of Canadian Heritage. Sports Canada supports
the achievement of high performance excellence and the development
of the Canadian sport system to strengthen the unique contribution
that sport makes to Canadian identity, culture and society. |
